NSW Geographical Names Board Search page: 

Enter the place name, & click on search. From the list of options, select any of the names in blue to call up more specific detail about this place, including the County and parish in which it lies, as well as its latitude & longitude.

These can be entered in the SIX mapping website to find its physical location. Use the Co-ordinate tool found in the centre of the tool box on the SIX maps home page

This was compiled at the NSW Government’s Information Office in Sydney in the 1950’s,  & published in book form in 2013.

In 1848, surveyor William Henry Wells published  A Geographical Dictionary or Gazetteer of the Australian Colonies

This was published as a facsimile in 1970 by the Council of the Library of NSW, and is now on-line at
